Crowley Recognized by
Louisiana Municipal Association
The City of Crowley was honored as one of three first place winners in the Louisiana Municipal Association's annual Community Achievement Awards - held respectively with the City of New Iberia and the Town of Mamou.
Crowley was cited for the conversion of the historic Ford building downtown into Crowley's new City Hall. Crowley purchased the 16,000-square foot building in 1999 from the family of Louisiana recording legend J.D. Miller and began renovations to provide city offices and to house an interpretive center for the history of the rice industry and of the city, as well as to preserve Miller's third floor recording studio. The building was built in 1921 as a showroom and assembly line for Model T Fords.
Mayor Isabella dela Houssaye said she is "thrilled at the recognition." She said the renovation has provided an improved work environment for city employees and better access for citizens needing city services.
