Opelousas, LA…. Members of the Zydeco Cajun Prairie Byway Commission and guests gathered with the talented team that created poster/map of the Zydeco Cajun Prairie Byway for an official unveiling. The 200 plus mile Byway was designated as a Louisiana Scenic Byway in 1997 and has three interconnected driving loops that lead you through the parishes of Acadia, Evangeline and St. Landry.
Along this route the traveler will experience the rich history and cultural intrinsic and natural resources found only here in south Louisiana. As part of the experience the visitor will hear our indigenous music like Cajun, Zydeco and Swamp Pop and sample our local cuisine. They will be welcomed in our shops and attractions and interact with our local residents. All the while learning more about the area we call home!
The poster/map will be given to businesses and attractions along the route for display, in hopes of raising awareness of both the business owner and the visitor that they are on a Louisiana Scenic Byway. The map will compliment a three-panel brochure that is also available. The concept of showcasing the Byway from a “bird’s eye” perspective was that of consultant Phil Lank (PALPlans, LLC). The initial layout was created by Herb Roe (Chromesun Productions) using computer-generated images depicting sites seen on the Byway. Once this phase was completed, commissioned muralist, Robert Dafford, added another layer to the image both physically and visually. He painted the two musicians and embellished the landscape, to create the desired depth and dimension through shadowing and various hues. The original piece was then formatted and produced by Phil Schneider (Coldframe Digital). The printing of the poster/map was handled by Bodemuller The Printer.
The project was funded in part by a grant through the Federal Highway Administration. For more information about the Zydeco Cajun Scenic Byway, visit our website at www.zydecocajunbyway.com
